Last night a fire broke out at The Loft gift shop in Broad Street, Teddington.

The alarm was raised at about 8pm by two ladies in a nearby flat and passers-by also called the emergency services.
Fire engines from Twickenham were quickly at the scene and the fireman had to break down the glass front doors to get in to put the fire out.
Fortunately, there was no-one inside the shop at the time and the fire engines were there for around two-three hours making the shop safe.
It appears that the fire started at the back of the shop and has damaged some of the Christmas stock. There is discussion that it was an electrical fault that started the fire, but this has not been confirmed.
This is the second shop fire this year, after Pearl Dry Cleaners suffered a serious fire back in July this year. The dry cleaners on Teddington High Street remains closed.
This morning the clear-up at The Loft was taking place and new doors were being fitted at the front of the shop.
The Loft is a very popular independent shop, selling home furnishings and gifts, and has been run by owners Cheranne and Nigel for the past nine years.
We send our best wishes to the owners at The Loft for a speedy re-opening.
