The Bloated Mallard closed
The flats above the pub are now finished and the open day was held on Saturday by The Paragon Community Housing Group. The development is a mixture of 22 shared ownership and affordable rental apartments. 11 are for sale on a shared ownership basis. The apartments are 1 and 2 bedroom spread over three floors. Paragon has been working with Richmond upon Thames Churches Housing Trust, Richmond Council and First Steps London on the build. Teddington's Tide End Developments have also been involved. If you are interested in seeing more information then take a look at www.firststepslondon.org, telephone 0845 230 8099 or register at www.richmond.gov.uk, telephone 020 8487 5454.
In Victoria Road, the Bloated Mallard has closed and the sign on the door says closed until further notice. Richmond Camra report that "a van was seen removing some furniture. It is understood that the reason for its closure is Enterprise Inns increasing the rent making the pub unviable for the tenant. The tenant who came from the film industry, has decided to return to it."
In other pub news, The Oak, then Sammy's American Bar & Grill has a notice on the doors saying that The Royal Oak will be opening on the site. The Royal Oak used to be the pub that sat further back on the plot before the new flats were built.
