Figures released by the Department for Education two days ago place Richmond as one of the top boroughs in the country for GCSE results, according to the Richmond and Twickenham Times. The results show that 61% of pupils in Richmond achieved five or more A* to C grades, including the core subjects of Maths and English.

Richmond schools are up nine places since last year and are catching up with Kensington and Chelsea who currently stand at 71% A* to C grades including Maths and English. The borough council have praised hard work of pupils, teachers and parents. As a parent of a child about to sit 10 GCSE's next June I feel huge sympathy for children, their teachers and parents who are under so much pressure. When I was young we had all our exams in June and that was it. Now there are mountains of coursework and examination modules throughout the year. On top of this, parents have to deal with all those teenage hormones and angst. I think they all deserve our congratulations.
Comments
I agree - I think it is really tough that they have to do so much coursework and it is particularly difficult for boys as girls seem to do better with the ongoing assessments than boys do. Nevertheless, well done.
