New to the area and am so pleased to find this place right on our doorstep. Food and wine all fantastic! Had the rump of lamb which was excellent quality and cooked to perfection with the most delicious jus. Finished off with a truly wonderful rhubarb soufflé for pud. Had a carafe of something red and fruity recommended by our waiter and we couldn't fault it. Prices make this place one for special occasions which is a shame as I'd happily frequent on a more regular basis. They do however have a reasonable set menu available although the A La Carte is hard to resist.

We have been Retro fans since it opened and service continues to be warm, welcoming amd efficient. However, the standard of the kitchen at weekends has slipped - lower quality meat than previously, fewer veg and pretty lacklustre cooking. Come on Retro, you can do better.

Retro is a wonderful restaurant, but not light on your pocket. That said as a treat it is a belter. The wine is great, the service is good and the food just melts in the mouth. Be sure to book a table however since it can get very busy at the weekend.
I was fortunate to get a booking at Retro last week with a dear friend. We both enjoyed a wonderful evening of divine foods and very pleasant wine.. I felt it was fine dining though I was put right by the owner (who's name escapes me) as it is in fact, a bistro! I enjoyed each of my small (!) 3 courses though my guest felt her food was under seasoned though still tasty and appetizing. The reastaurant was practically full and the atmospher was most agreeable. The staff hovered in the background but were attentive. This restaurant offers style and quality at a reasonable price.
The owner is always on hand to ensure every customer is happy with their menu selection and to chat. He rounded off our evening beautifully with a complimentary glass of champagne each.
If I was to be picky, the coloured water glasses aren't in keeping with the rest of the classy appearance nor was the salt and pepper on the table.
I would definately go again.

Super bistro with unique and lovable decor. The music is nice and adds to the cool but low key atmosphere. The staff are charming, always on hand with a genuine smile and a bit of chit chat. It's warm and relaxing inside and then comes the menu which is always laden with treats. It's all very high quality food, perfectly presented and in good sized portions. The desserts are particularly scrummy. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you're a bit of a foodie.
