Loved the Retro and especially it's manager - a frenchman with a real sense of style. His quiff and his fashion style are unique! That aside the staff were all very charming and the food excellent. Probably best described as affordable haut cuisine. The ambiance and surroundings are stylish, comfortable and friendly. It feels upmarket but not so fancy that you feel you have to be on your best behaviour (not that we were badly behaved!). Tried a beetroot risotto that was fantastic. Vincent, the boss, is very attentive without overdoing it and prone to offering the odd glass or small tasty dish of something complimentary. If you want something a bit special but not over the top, then I would thoroughly recommend this fabulous french bistro.
