Teddington property market

We have seen a few comments here from people wanting to move to Teddington and who are looking for property to rent and to buy.

I spoke to a lady in her thirties in Broad Street wanting to move here because of the good transport links into London but said “Teddington’s out of my price reach for a one bedroom flat, even though I would love to live here.  Also there’s not much available.” 

The last three years have seen some change with property prices falling in 2008, recovering in 2009 and more optimism being seen in the local market this year.  I’ve certainly seen this for my property value. 

For a more expert opinion, I spoke to a mortgage adviser in one of the banks in the High Street who told me that Teddington has ridden the downturn well because "it is such a desirable place to live in - although house owners aren't making as much money between moves.” 

Getting onto the property ladder in the first place remains an issue  in Richmond Borough because of high prices.   

On the commercial property side, we are seeing more empty shops in the High Street and Broad Street – a concern highlighted by The Teddington Society in their Autumn 2010 Newsletter.

Teddington’s new property build has been a stop-start process - such as the new development opposite The Lensbury Club in Broom Road and the old Waldegrave Arms site.  The planning process for the new Somerset Road development continues. 

Renovations though continue throughout Teddington, where local companies such as Tide End development are seen.
