Election snippets

Here’s a couple of pre-election snippets. Some independent candidate for Hackney South and Shoreditch is standing on a ‘direct digital democracy’ basis. Eh? Well, the candidate promises that, if he is elected, he will set up an online poll for each issue heard in Parliament and vote the way his constituents tell him to! Every voter will get a login for his website, and will be able to vote in the polls using a pc or mobile. Whatever the majority vote is, he will vote that way! Check it out at http://getavote.org and at http://twitter.com/getavote. He's got 30 followers... If you’re not planning to vote in the election because you don’t think any of the local candidates are any good, would you really vote for someone to do this instead? Is it safe , open to being hacked, or will people just not vote seriously. Some other independent candidate for The Cities of London and Westminster, Dennis Delderfield, has pledged to give his entire MP’s salary to the charity Help the Heroes. He's the owner of a newspaper, perhaps he can afford to work as an MP and give away the salary...Maybe other MPs should do the same to rebuild trust in everything after the expenses scandal? Would this ever happen in tedders- don't think so!!!!!!

So basically only the rich can afford to be MPs then. Conservative candidates have a history of being rich but at least with the other parties you have a chance if you so wish of becoming a candidate without having loads of money behind you.
