Olympic Road Races coming through Teddington in 2012

Although we’re just into 2011, 2012 is just around the corner and the Olympic Cycling Road Race will come through Bushy Park and through Teddington! We’re on the Olympic map!

2012 Olympics coming past The Diana Fountain, Bushy Park, Teddington,
Starting off in The Mall, racers will race down to our neck of the woods through Chelsea, Hammersmith, Wandsworth, Richmond Park and then to us in Teddington before going to Kingston, then Surrey and back into London for the finish line!
The races will take place during the first days of the Olympics at the end of July. The women’s race will be about 3.5 hours long and the men’s race about 6 hours. Phew!
Seb Coe said: “This extends the Games into the south west of London and Surrey. We are delighted to be bringing such high profile and exciting events here, and which will be bringing the Road Race into challenging cycling terrain through many new boroughs and districts. Following our medal success in Beijing, the Road Cycling events really will bring the magic of the Games to life for many thousands of spectators.”
Boris Johnson said: “The explosion in cycling in the capital over the past year proves that Londoners have well and truly caught the cycling bug. There's no better way of getting around the city than on two wheels. This great route not only takes in London's iconic landmarks but brings the Games to the doorsteps of even more parts of the capital, and will ensure London keeps moving during these hugely popular event.”
This will be amazing to watch as the race comes through Bushy Park and also through Teddington's streets!
