For those of you in Teddington willing to venture into Twickenham for some theatre, the Richmond Shakespeare Society is bringing Willy Russell's much loved classic, Educating Rita, to a new generation of theatregoers this September.
Educating Rita at the Mary Wallace Theatre in Twickenham from September.
The play charts the relationship between Rita, a forthright and frustrated hairdresser, hungry to know “everything”, and Frank, the disillusioned Open University tutor assigned to teach her. This modern retelling of Pygmalion follows their unlikely relationship from culture clash to mutual empathy and respect.
Rita learns the difference between Yates the wine lodge and Yeats the poet, while Frank, thanks to her fresh outlook, starts to question whether there is more to life than his whisky bottles which he hides around his bookshelves.
Funny, moving and often thought-provoking Educating Rita will be sure to entertain and, possibly, even educate you.
You can book your tickets now at the Mary Wallace Theatre, located on Twickenham Embankment. If you haven't managed to see a play there yet, it's well worth a visit.
Tickets are £10 on weekdays, £12 on weekends, and the play runs from Saturday 21 September to Saturday 28 September. Book tickets here: http://www.richmondshakespeare.org.uk
