On Friday 28th March, Vince Cable, MP for Twickenham, will be meeting with the Managing Director of South West trains, to discuss their proposals for the next franchise period (if South West Trains were to win).
Vince Cable is interested in getting residents' views on how they want the rail system to improve over the next decade, and invites residents to fill out his Travel Survey.
South West Trains have announced that they are adding extra carriages, which includes the first 10-car train being rolled out on the London Waterloo to Windsor line, starting this month.
Overall 108 extra carriages will be added to the South West Trains network over the next 12 months, representing an investment of £65 million, providing an extra 23,000 peak time passengers every day.
In addition to the extra carriages, the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance has extended platforms at over 60 stations to enable longer trains to run on key routes, it has re-opened Platform 20 of the former Waterloo International Terminal which will be used for full passenger services from 19th May.
Vince Cable said, “I have been pressing for these changes for several years and am pleased to see it is now happening. Meeting with the Managing Director of South West Trains this week, I am interested to hear what other improvements residents would like to see to the local rail system.”
