Motorists in Richmond are being reminded that The Avenue at the junction of Cassilis Road is closed for the next two weeks.

Thames Water have to make the closures due to an earlier sewage failure.

A council spokesperson has said traffic in the surrounding areas is inevitable.

It's hoped homes in the area will be less affected by flooding once the works are complete.

The works will be carried out by Thames Water to correct a sewer failure. The repair works will be carried out in two phases, the first will see the west bound traffic restricted to one lane outside no. 16 to 30 for six days.

The second will be both westbound and eastbound traffic restricted to one lane also outside no 16 to 30 for six days. The traffic management will be continuous at these sites until the end of the works

Cllr Chris Harrison, Cabinet Member for Highways and Street Scene said: "We're committed to minimising disruption and have worked closely with Thames Water and TfL in order to reduce the impact of these works on road users, businesses and local residents.

"However, some disruption to traffic on the A316 is inevitable, especially in the evening rush hour as westbound lanes will be partially closed".
