Police are reassuring parents in Hampton and surrounding local areas over a man who attempted to abduct a girl walking to school.

The nine-year-old, who was walking behind her mother at the time, was snatched a week ago close to her house in St James Churchyard, Hampton. She managed to kick herself free from her attacker.

The man was described as wearing grey jogging trousers, a grey hoodie with white string, a grey plastic watch and white trainers.

Extra police patrols and a CCTV van have been set up around local schools in the area and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. No other similar incidents have been reported.
