Up to 400 midnight walkers took to the streets of Kingston, Twickenham and Teddington in their pyjamas to raise money for Princess Alice Hospices ‘8 to 8’ night nursing service last Saturday.

Walkers put on their nightwear for an 8 or 12 mile walk through the night with all proceeds helping to fund the ‘8 to 8’ night nursing service Princess Alice Hospice provides. The service allows patients to be cared for through the night, meaning their families and carers are able to have some respite.
Walkers were entertained with face painting and magicians in what was to be the sixth Midnight Walk that the Hospice has held. Throughout the route, walkers were cheered on by supporters providing encouragement for a well earned breakfast.
Ben Makins, a walker from Twickenham, said: “I’ve got sore feet and stiff legs now but the walk was really uplifting. Walking over Richmond Bridge and seeing the twinkling lights of the other walkers was great, it was really enjoyable and I’m glad it wasn’t raining!”
Ronald Chave, the oldest of the walkers taking part at 84, from Richmond, said: “I found it a bit tough but everyone was very welcoming. It was enjoyable and we were very lucky with the weather. The route is all around my local area so I knew where we were going; we even passed my house twice!”
Emma Waggott, Community Events Manager, said: “The Midnight Pyjama Walk was great, it is one of our favourite events and it’s great to see our supporters having a really enjoyable time whilst raising money to help such an important service at the hospice. We are so thankful to everyone who came and took part, and to the volunteers and staff that helped make Saturday the huge success it was, we couldn’t have done it without them.”
