Cycling safety will be in focus later this month as Bike Week returns to the borough between Monday 14 June and Sunday 22 June.
Richmond Council’s Safety Education Team will be providing bike safety sessions at schools and free once-overs by bike specialist ‘Dr Bike’. The Dr Bike sessions will take place near Roehampton Gate in Richmond Park on Saturday, June 21 from 11am to 4pm.
The check ups are free and there is no need to book. The Metropolitan Police will also be on hand to provide ‘exchanging places’ which lets cyclists sit in the cab of an HGV and see just how poor the sight lines can be, particularly down the insides of long vehicles to demonstrate the dangers of cycling up the inside of such vehicles.
Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Transport, Cllr Stephen Speak , said:
“Cycling is hugely popular in Richmond which is why the Council takes bike safety so seriously. I would urge as many cyclists as possible to get their bikes checked out as part of National Bike Week – it could save your life.”
