With many parents anxiously receiving the results of their primary school application Richmond Council today announced its figures for offers being made.
According to the numbers, 91% of parents in the borough received an offer at one of their first three preferred primary schools. Of these, the Council announced that 80% were offered a place at their first preference primary school, compared to last year’s figure of 76% and 2012’s figure of 75%.
The statistics also showed that competition for reception year places was up this year. The increase of 5% meant that 2,510 people applied for a place at a school in the borough compared with 2,384 last year.
This leaves 75 children unplaced, compared with 89 in 2013 but the Council says places should become available on waiting-lists with some parents opting for private schools.
