It's a cold day in Teddington today and the temperature will be getting colder during the week, with the coldest overnight temperature of -4 on Thursday morning.

It looks like we'll avoid the snow we had in 2010 but it's important to keep warm out there and at home too, particularly for our older residents.

For our older residents Richmond Council offer free support to keep homes warm – and - the Borough has received a £160,000 grant from the Department of Health.

The funding is for the Winter Warmth project, coordinated jointly by Richmond Council, NHS Richmond, Age UK and the Home Improvement Agency, which sees a series of keeping warm and well support options for our over 75s.

Cllr Nicola Urquhart, Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Housing said: "This funding will enable us to ensure that our most vulnerable residents are warm, comfortable and well in their homes over the next few months, especially at a time when heating systems can pack up or prove too costly. Ensuring homes are properly insulated and highlighting the savings to be made will help to keep people living happily in their own homes for as long as possible, which is one of our top priorities.

"This project is also a good example of partnership working with the local community groups, NHS Richmond and the voluntary sector to the benefit of our residents."

If you know anyone who needs help you can arrange a free home visit for them on 020 8891 7436.
